Birding at Rongtong and Surroundings
The road towards Rongtong passes through Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary and Sukna Reserve Forest, making it an ideal destination for bird watching and photography. Travellers can spot Himalayan Bulbul, Spangled Drongo, Yellow-footed Green Pigeon, Scarlet Minivet, and Green Bee-eater along the route.

Rongtong is a peaceful hamlet surrounded by lush greenery. It lies about 17 km from Siliguri and 7 km from Sukna. It is also a station on the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, located at an altitude of around 1,404 feet.
