Yumthang Valley, the Valley of Flowers

Location: North Sikkim, India

Yumthang Valley is situated in North Sikkim and is famous for its picturesque beauty. The valley is located north of Gangtok.

Yumthang is located on a flat valley near the tree line, where surrounding mountains seem to touch the sky. The route from Lachung passes through the Singba Forest Reserve.

Tourists require an inner line permit to travel to North Sikkim, which can be arranged through travel agents. The tourism department also organizes package tours.

Note: This area is landslide-prone from June to September.

Best Time to Visit: March to June for rhododendrons, and October to December for snow views.

Restoration of Road to China Border

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) completed a Bailey bridge over the Lachen Chu, restoring connectivity to Gurudongmar Lake.

October 2023 Flood: A glacial lake outburst flood damaged infrastructure and cut off North Sikkim.

Current Status: Connectivity has been restored as of 2024.
